Our story

In 2021, Jeremy planted 1,540 Pinot Noir vines across one acre of land in Marlbank, with its marl soils, like those found in Burgundy vineyards that produce some of the world's best Pinot Noir wines. The vineyard benefits from an ideal north-south orientation, which maximises photosynthesis and ensures the vines reach their full potential.

All of the pruning, tying down, the bud-rubbing, frost protection, disease and insect control, green harvesting and bird scaring are done by Jeremy, or under his very close supervision. Many of the activities call upon judgement, rather than being right or wrong. It is the attention to detail in the execution that makes all the difference

Natural vineyard management lies at the heart of Marlbank’s approach. We foster a balanced ecosystem, with native tree planting, alternate mowing and limited use of pesticides. It encourages insects and butterflies, whilst also supporting a habitat for other local wildlife such as bats, birds, and hedgehogs.

Biodiversity and environmental stewardship

Around the property, we have counted 50 bird species and seven types of bats. Native trees and hedgerows have been planted to create habitats for wildlife. The different plants provide food and shelter for pollinators and beneficial insects, enriching the vineyard's ecosystem.

Through our natural vineyard management and our low-impact approach, we work in harmony with nature to cultivate the best grapes that we can.
